Soul
275

Presenting the new generation Cotic Soul: an update to the original long fork steel hardtail; now with 27.5" wheels.

A trail riding machine in the truest sense, the Soul has amazing adaptability and all round performance. Tough, light, zippy, fun, interactive, durable, comfortable. It was initially conceived as a Modern Steel Hardtail and that where we have always aimed to keep it. It's grown and adapted, with dropper seatpost compatibility, tapered headtube, and now for 2014 the addition of a 27.5" wheel option.

The Soul is happy ripping up the singletrack at your local woods or trail centre, crossing maps on your bivvy adventures, smashing rocks in the Peak or Lake Districts, or tearing down mountains on your summer holidays.

The Cotic Soul: The ultimate expression of the trail hardtail.

Soul275 available in Matte Cotic Orange or Matte Bright Blue.

New colours coming soon.... British Racing Green and Hot Yellow... both in gloss.

What's New?

Soul275 brings together everything that made the original Soul26 great, and added 27.5" wheels and our latest thinking on geometry and frame layout.

Exclusive Cotic designed tapered head tube uses a 44mm bottom end, yet maintains the traditional 34mm top end. It's compatible with both taper steerers and 1 1/8" forks, so it'll work with whatever you're using now or planning to buy in the future. Its elegant, high performance, and much lighter than a full 44mm head tube when combined with the Soul tubeset.

The lightweight oversized 34.9mm seat tube developed for the Solaris and this is carried onto the Soul275. It brings a dropper compatible 31.6mm seatpost size, its 10% lighter than the 28.6mm bulge butted tube for a 27.2mm seatpost whilst being 15% stiffer. This is also a Cotic exclusive feature due to the proprietary manufacturing process we have developed to make use of this tube possible.

There is weight saved from the Ovalform top tube whilst maintaining strength, and dropper seatpost remote hose clips are included on the underside.

Geometry is our new Optimised For Inline layout. It brings together the best of our original Ultra Compact Geometry, with tweaks to optimise it for inline clamp dropper seatposts, 27.5" wheels and 120mm forks.

Frame Specifications

Complete Bike Specifications

Build Specification.

All our bikes are hand assembled to order here in Sheffield by Paul, Cy or Richard. If there's anything on the spec you're not sure about, or don't need, give us a ring to discuss. We'd much rather leave something off you don't need and charge you a bit less than waste a perfectly good part you'll not use when we can put it on someone elses bike. Better for you, better for us, less waste, so better for everyone.

Specifications subject to change without notice. Because of this, bikes show in videos and photos are likely to feature a different spec to that currently offered.

Geometry and Sizing Chart

The chart is a guide to frame size. The Soul275 features Optimised For Inline geometry.

Our original Ultra Compact Geometry was designed around a 100mm travel fork as a minimum. The original geometry also assumed a layback seatpost. Running forks longer than 100mm (most people use 120mm on their Soul these days) shortens the reach (distance from bars to BB) and running an inline or dropper post (which are usually inline clamp) shortens the position from the other end of the bike, squeezing the room available to the rider.

Optimised For Inline takes the rider position we originally intended for 100mm forks on the original Soul and then maintains it for a 27.5" wheel frame layout with 120mm forks installed and an inline seatpost. This has meant lengthening the top tube at the front end to compensate for the longer forks, and slackening the seat angle at the rear to swing an inline seatpost into the same saddle clamp position as a layback version.

The resulting geometry makes the frames look long on the top tube compared to what you might be used to on a traditionally designed 26" wheel bike. However, the new layout is simply tuned for proper position on inline or dropper posts, but the BB, head tube, bars and the saddle are all in the same places as the usually are on a Cotic bike. The effect is to make the top tubes look long when the reach is comparable to our usual sizing. Click here to read in more detail about Optimised For Inline geometry.

If you would like us to help you out with sizing, or are on the cusp of two sizes then drop us a line at size@cotic.co.uk or give us a call on 07970 853531 and we'll be happy to discuss set up based on what you're riding at the moment.
