27/02/2017 - Grit and Steel - Peak District and Sheffield Cycling Piste Map

We have been working on a little project for a while, which we revealed on Friday in Sheffield at our photo exhibition. This is all the vision, creativity and hard work of our very own Brand/PR/Photographer/Stunt Man/Dog Lover Richard, so I'll hand you over to him to explain...

Everyone knows how proud we are of our City and how much we enjoy & appreciate the proximity of arguably some of the best riding in the UK, so we thought we'd try to pay a little back. On a holiday in California last year, I met artist Nick Sawyers at the infamous Sheep Hills. Nick is a prodigious painter & illustrator who has one of the most entertaining social media feeds you'll have ever seen (@nicksawyers). When he's not shredding Sheep Hills or Wetlands on his BMX, he can be found getting his monster truck axle-deep in the sand dunes of Baja, or painting enormous murals all over the LA area. Whilst extolling the virtues of his hometown, I saw that Nick was the talent needed to create Sheffield's first ever piste-map for cycling.

Anyone who has ever taken a trip away to the mountains will look fondly over the dog-eared, folded sheets of paper they keep in their pocket. Bringing all the different places to get rad on a bicycle together, in one resource, we've created something we hope will encourage more exploration both by locals and visitors. It's easy to get stuck in the groove of riding the same well-worn paths you're familiar with. Maps help us break out of the mold and discover what's been hiding right in front of us the whole time. Maybe it's time to visit a skatepark, brave the steep woods, give cycle speedway a shot or just try another set of trails just over the hill. There's magic out there and now you know where to look.
