The Escapade: Road, trails, gravel, commute, tour, adventure
We had a limited edition of Taiwan built Reynolds 853 Escapade. You asked, we delivered. This was for one-batch-only; when they're gone, they're gone! This one-off run of frames used all the tricks of the Reynolds and Cotic toolboxes - things like DZB down tube and Ovalform top tube – to create a supple and super strong front end to the bike. A touch lighter than the regular Escapade, around 70 grams depending on size, these 853 frames boast another level of compliance and comfort. These frames were available in Lichen and Damson colours, with a matte finish.

- Updated Inside Out cable routing introduced in 2020 has been adapted for Di2 compatibility. Contact us for parts list required for the installation.
- Gravel specific wide +2.5mm chainline for extra tyre clearance has been adopted to allow up to 650x50 or 700x44 tyres. The full list of chainsets and chainlines useable are listed below:
- Shimano Double GRX600 30/46 or GRX812 31/48. Shimano GRX front mechs only. No Shimano road chainline chainsets fit.
- Shimano Single/1x GRX up to 42t
- SRAM 11spd Double Road maximum 34/50, SRAM 12spd Double Road maximum 35/48 or any SRAM WIDE Chainset.
- SRAM Single/1x Road Chainline max 38t, SRAM WIDE Single/1x Chainline max 42t
- Hope RX 45mm chainline maximum 32/48 double, maximum 40t Single/1x
- The included full carbon RB5 forks have been updated to feature 3 "Anything Cage" style bosses on each leg, to enable light loads to be carried up front.
Front Mech is still 28.6mm bottom pull or Di2 or AXS eTap. Shimano GRX +2.5mm chainline front mechs are required for Shimano chainsets, or SRAM conventional or wide road chainline appropriate for your SRAM chainset. Conventional Shimano road chainline (105, Ultegra, Tiagra etc) DOES NOT FIT.
The chart is a guide to frame size for the new Escapade: Ultra Compact Geometry - Road means that the frames are low and long. You'll probably need a 350mm seatpost due to the compact sizing. Note, the sloping top tube design needs to be taken into account if you're comparing seat tube size with other bikes. - Great rear tyre clearance: Big road or cyclo-cross tyres up to 700x44, or 650b x 50 for maximum float and comfort on the potholes, rough tracks and back lanes?
- Cotic RB5 fork: Taperer steerer, full carbon construction. 12mm thru axle. Massive clearance for up to 700x47c or the 650b x 50 tyres.
- Precision 142x12 thru axle rear dropouts for ease of wheel removal with 'guards or without.
- Cotic Inside Out routing: Di2, internal or external mechanical, dropper, whatever you need.
- 68mm threaded BB shell. Chainline is 45-46mm used on the new wide chainline gravel groupsets such as GRX for extra tyre clearance. Road chainline do not fit.

Cotic frames are designed, developed, engineered and tested entirely by us at our base in the Peak District, near Sheffield in the UK. Our founder - Cy Turner - is the lead designer and engineer, and our frames are rigorously ride tested by everyone at Cotic, and our Race Team. They are fully certified and lab tested in excess of the requirements of ISO4210 safety standards.
This frame is hand made in Taiwan by our specially selected framebuilder, chosen because of their vast experience with our favourite materials, and their top quality finish. They are the best in Taiwan for what we need.
Each frame is dip coated inside and out with zinc phosphate before painting, to prevent corrosion and ensure the best paint finish. After we've agonised over the colours, designs and decals the frames are painted to the highest quality including a protective clear coat, before extensive QC by our agent in Taiwan. Once the frames reach us in the UK, we carry out further QC, and prep the frames for headset and bottom bracket installation.
